Orlando Pinder is a visual storyteller who uses a multidisciplinary approach to journalism, working across both video and photography. His work includes contributions to The New Republic, Voice of America, and Al Jazeera America’s Baltimore Rising, where his footage helped capture the impact of Freddie Gray’s killing on residents of Sandtown. He also photographed post-coal communities in Appalachia for a zine titled Almost Heaven, and his images were later published by Socialter Magazine.

His work often blends reporting with collaboration. His project with two-time Grammy-winning jazz artist Nate Smith documents Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. In Dobšiná, Slovakia, he collaborated on a documentary project that combined professional filmmaking with participatory methods, giving Romani residents the tools to tell their own stories.

He built a strong foundation in newsroom workflow through his internship at PBS NewsHour and his time at The Columbia Chronicle, his college paper, where he received recognition from the Illinois College Press Association for his Photojournalism.
